Makoto Arita, PhD
Dr. Makoto Arita is Professor of Physiological Chemistry and Metabolism at Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Keio University. Also Dr. Arita heads the Laboratory for Metabolomics at RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences as a Team Leader. Dr. Arita's research is focused on elucidating structure and function of a series of endogenous lipid mediators that regulate inflammation and tissue homeostasis. His group has made important studies in identifying novel metabolic pathways and bioactive products derived from n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. They also identified the role of eosinophils and eosinophil-derived lipid mediators in controlling acute inflammation and resolution. Currently Dr. Arita's research is focused on development and application of LC-MS-based non-targeted lipidomics platform to discover novel link between lipid metabolism and biological phenotypes. He is currently Executive Editor of the Progress in Lipid Research and Director of the LipoQuality program project.
