- Feds To Probe Dearborn Imam Shooting

Feb 2, 2010GeneralThe U-S Justice Department is opening an inquiry into the shooting death of a Dearborn Imam killed by law enforcement agents last October.

A joint task force of federal and Metro Detroit law enforcement officials say they shot the Imam 20 times…after he opened fire on a dog sent at him by agents.
Luqman Ameen Abdullah‘s body was found by investigators with his wrists handcuffed behind his back…something police officials say is often standard procedure for potentially dangerous individuals.
But it took months for the autopsy report to be released…and there has still been no official police report on the incident.
That bothers Democratic Congressman John Conyers…who chairs the House Judiciary Committee.
Conyers says he’s happy that the U-S Justice Department’s Civil Rights division has agreed to review the shooting…because he’s finding very little information elsewhere.
“I haven’t heard a word from the Mayor of Dearborn…who is a friend of mine. This could also fit in the hate crime category…that happens to be my legislation…”
Some activists charge that the Imam was the victim of a – quote – “targeted assassination.”
But F-B-I officials counter that they were conducting a sting operation into what they call a violent…separatist group that included the Imam…
